Our Objective
Our firm brings a creative, analytical and common-sense approach to planning and designing purposeful, user-driven outdoor spaces. Our goal is to create visually stimulating, timeless and enduring gardens that fulfill the clients’ needs and wishes. We strive to create outdoor spaces that are inviting, comfortable and dynamic.
We weave our landscapes into the regional, historical, environmental and architectural fabric as a means of harmoniously integrating them with the distinctive character of every site. Sustainable principals are inherent in our approach to planning and design. We encourage preservation and enhancement of the natural environment through the use of appropriate plants and sustainable materials and consideration for natural processes.
About Scott Menzel
Scott’s journey into landscape architecture began with an undergraduate education at Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo. After achieving his Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture with honors, Scott was the protégé of well-known Santa Barbara-based landscape architect, Sydney Baumgartner.
During his 10 years with Sydney, Scott was undoubtedly influenced by design theories and principals handed down from iconic landscape architect Lockwood de Forest, whose wife and business partner was Sydney’s mentor. Scott continues a tradition of design embedded with a sophisticated and diverse horticultural palette and a keen ability to relate a landscape to the local context.
